Destination Stewardship Dashboard

The Challenge

For decades, tourism success has been measured almost entirely through economic indicators — visitor volume, spending, occupancy, and tax revenue. Those numbers still matter, but residents, boards, and funders increasingly ask a bigger question: is tourism actually good for this place?

The data to answer that question usually exists, but it sits in silos — scattered across state agencies, park services, airports, universities, and research vendors. Most destination teams have no inventory of what is already being collected, and no map of the public data sources they could draw on.

Without a shared measurement system, destinations cannot demonstrate balanced performance, defend stewardship investments, or respond credibly when communities push back on tourism growth.

Our Solution

UN Tourism Framework Alignment

We anchor your measurement system in UN Tourism’s Statistical Framework for Measuring the Sustainability of Tourism (SF-MST) — the global consensus on how to measure tourism’s economic, environmental, and social performance.

Data Inventory and Audit

We work with your team and partners to catalog the data your destination already collects across agencies, research vendors, and industry organizations — so you start with what you have instead of commissioning costly new research.

Public Data Source Identification

We identify publicly available datasets — from parks and labor statistics to airports and transportation agencies — that fill measurement gaps without new collection costs.

Indicator Selection and Localization

We facilitate the selection of indicators that reflect your destination’s priorities, moving beyond economic data to cover visitor experience, community well-being, the environment, and stewardship leadership.

Dashboard Build and Launch

We design and build an interactive, publicly accessible dashboard that brings every indicator together in one transparent view, with each data source clearly cited.

INSTO Observatory Membership

For destinations seeking global alignment and networking, we guide your application to UN Tourism’s International Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories (INSTO).

Proven in Colorado – A Statewide Destination Stewardship Dashboard

Solimar partnered with the Colorado Tourism Office to research, design, and build the Colorado Destination Stewardship Dashboard, a publicly accessible tool that tracks dozens of indicators across four categories: Economic Benefits & Employment, Visitor Experience & Community, Environment & Sustainability, and Destination Stewardship Leadership. Anchored in UN Tourism’s SF-MST and cross-checked against the GSTC Destination Criteria, the dashboard draws on data from more than a dozen partners — visitor research firms, state agencies, park services, and Denver International Airport — using data already being collected rather than costly new studies. Colorado is among the first US states to publicly measure not just tourism’s results, but its stewardship readiness. Explore it at ctostewardship.com
