Solution

GoGood - Destination Stewardship Network

The Challenge

Tourism depends on well-managed natural and cultural assets, yet many destinations lack a simple way to align businesses, residents, nonprofits, and government around shared stewardship goals.

Promotion often rewards volume over outcomes. Local businesses struggle to compete with large national brands and corporate operators. Communities worry about crowding, pollution, asset degradation, and economic leakage when profits leave the destination.

Destinations need a credible way to guide visitors toward authentic local experiences, improve sustainability performance, and ensure tourism value is reinvested back into the community.

Our Solution

Destination Stewardship Coalition

We convene stakeholders across the tourism supply chain to form a coalition that guides stewardship priorities and oversees the platform.

Community Visioning

A kickoff workshop brings tourism stakeholders together for stewardship and marketing conversations that build alignment and shared ownership.

Curation Council

A small local council recruits members, onboards partners, and supports content curation.

Community Curated Mapguide

A beautiful, trusted guide highlights authentic, locally owned places and experiences vetted through a simple and transparent process with clear guidelines for sustainability and local impact.

Mobile App and Website Widget

The guide lives in the GoGood iOS and Android app and also appears as an embeddable map widget on partner websites.

Sustainability Self Assessment and Scorecards

Businesses complete a self-assessment based on Green Destinations Good Travel Scan. Each receives a sustainability scorecard with practical recommendations.

Visitor Rewards for Positive Impact

Visitors and locals earn rewards for supporting local businesses, volunteering, donating, verifying practices, and leaving useful reviews and recommendations.

Partner Marketing Toolkit

Coalition members and local partners receive marketing assets and a cooperative promotion plan to drive adoption.

Self Sustaining Funding Model

Seed funding launches the program, and after year one, revenue from sponsorships, memberships, and sales commissions sustains the platform while generating surplus funds for coalition-selected stewardship and marketing priorities.

GoGood deploys the mobile app and website map widget, then partners promote the guide through cooperative marketing and public relations.

Success Story – Modeled after the National Geographic Geotourism Program

The GoGood Destination Stewardship Network builds on a strong track record of using maps and storytelling to advance stewardship. Solimar’s partnership with Frank Biasi began during his time at National Geographic, where we collaborated to develop and deliver the Geotourism program in more than 25 destinations worldwide. That experience demonstrated a simple truth: a well-curated map paired with a compelling story can align local stakeholders, influence visitor choices, and elevate the places that reflect a destination’s values. GoGood builds on those lessons and strengthens the model by introducing clearer governance through a local coalition and curation council, more rigorous sustainability validation through business self-assessments and scorecards, and a more durable funding pathway to sustain the work over time. We are proud to continue harnessing the power of maps and storytelling to unite destination stakeholders and inspire visitors to support sustainable travel and stewardship.
