Local Tourism Specialists – Moldova


Solimar International, JE Austin and our consortium are seeking experienced tourism development and marketing professionals for an anticipated USAID activity focused on tourism development in Moldova. The overall goal of this five-year program is to further stimulate the transformation of the Moldovan tourism sector into an engine of economic growth, leading to higher living standards for rural Moldovans in the long term, while concurrently cultivating greater national pride in the Moldovan identity and strengthening social cohesion.

The implementation of the program is expected to yield the following outcomes:

  1. an increase in number of annual international visitors to Moldova;
  2. increased average spending by international visitors translating into higher foreign exchange earnings;
  3. an increase in number of days per visitor with an emphasis on attracting tourists to destinations located outside of the capital; and
  4. an increased number of direct and indirect tourism-related jobs;
  5. enhanced social cohesion among various ethnic groups in Moldova.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

Based in Chisinau, Moldova, Solimar is currently recruiting for up to four local Tourism Specialists who will be responsible for the following:

  • Assisting the program achieve fast and transformative results in the tourism sector under the following components:
    • Component 1: Increase in appreciation for Moldovan cultural diversity, a Moldovan national identify and social cohesion
    • Component 2: Enhanced branding, positioning and marketing to enable Moldova to attract specific target segments from key markets
    • Component 3: Number of museums, festivals and artisan craft fellows benefitting from USAID and program implementation activities
    • Component 4: Strengthened national tourism policies and institutions conducive to tourism industry development
  • Identifying growing tourism segments in domestic and international markets
  • Designing and managing domestic and international marketing and product development activities
  • Designing and managing capacity building activities for tourism stakeholders


  • 7 years of international development, tourism and marketing experience
  • Degree in tourism, marketing, communications, or similar
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in designing and implementing tourism related projects
  • Deep knowledge of cultural, sustainable and destination tourism development concepts
  • Experience interacting with local stakeholders, including governmental, public and private sector actors, and others
  • Demonstrated leadership, strong interpersonal, writing and oral presentation skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Fluent in both Moldovan/Romanian and English
