Community Tourism Info
Community Tourism offers the opportunity to experience first hand how a particular community lives in their day-to-day lives and how they are working to preserve their environment and heritage. Often with the support of development assistance, communities develop tourism products to provide an alternative or additional source of income for the community.
These communities either own a private ecological reserve or are located near areas of ecological and cultural interests. They offer the visitor an authentic mix of cultural and environmental adventure. Guests have the opportunity to experiencing the real destination in these out of the way places while getting to know the people who are involved in conservation at the grass roots level.
After working on various community tourism projects in Costa Rica, Jamaica, Guatemala, and the Comoros, Solimar identified the need to create a community tourism portal to aggregate these community tourism products and connect them with the independent travelers that are using the Internet to find authentic cultural experiences.
Communities, NGOs, or development assistance agencies interested in participating in the project are encouraged to contact us to learn how you can participate in this exciting project.
